Shared Country extends material, technical, and conceptual boundaries; which simultaneously drive my creative practice and reflecting my ongoing engagement with place and lived experience. The bronze was cast by myself and a small team of artists I mentor and train at The Portland Foundry, an independent facility I established and operate.
The figure simultaneously appears and dissolves, articulating a tension between strength and vulnerability. Her surface retains the trace of the artist’s hand, with my fingerprints preserved in bronze. Grounded in the earth, she incorporates cast organic materials; hessian, rope, and sticks, evoking impermanence and the fragile, contingent nature of living.
Logistics
The sculpture comprises of 5 pieces.
A timber block sits on the base, a square timber frame. The block comes with a pole that threads through the centre to enable easy movement.
The bronze torso has two pins - they slot in to the timber block.
The vertical steel and bronze piece is placed over the frame at the "back"
The final element - a bronze stick welded to steel rod slots into the same hole used to move the timber block.
Assembling takes 5-10min and is straight forward
The two biggest components are 18 kg each.
