“Resourceful” is one of Segre's largest pieces and also one of her most personal. It is made of remnants of fabrics leftover from her repair work for the marginally housed and unhoused in San Francisco. It stirs up memories that come flooding back: she knows that suit and the gentleman who is very particular; she remembers the woman who needed those worn jeans hemmed just so. Every scrap has a story and together they form a coat that provides protection and community. Life’s remnants are re-purposed and transformed into something of beauty.
