[FR] Library (Anthology for Beginners) est une série dans laquelle l’artiste retranscrit, mot à mot, des chapitres singuliers ou des textes entiers d’œuvres littéraires sur des grains de riz individuels. Le projet reconfigure la notion de bibliothèque comme lieu de conservation du savoir, en interrogeant la manière dont les livres accumulent et diffusent les idées.

L’acte laborieux de transcription, ainsi que la lecture lente de ces textes, s’apparentent à une forme de performance à la fois maniaque et méditative. À l’instar de la récitation poétique, les mots acquièrent un nouveau contexte.

Lire et retranscrire, à un rythme extrêmement lent, devient ainsi une manière de « performer Austen » ou de « performer Shakespeare ».

[EN] Library (Anthology for Beginners) is a series in which the artist writes singular chapters or the complete text of various literary works, word for word, on individual grains of rice. The project reframes the notion of the library as a repository of knowledge, in particular how books accumulate and disseminate information and ideas. The laborious act of transcribing and slowly reading these texts is equally akin to a manic, meditative type of performance art. Like reciting poetry, the words take on a new context. The act of reading and transcribing, at molasses pace, thus becomes a way of “performing Austen” or “performing Shakespeare.”
