Sabbia Residence emerged through the design of a coastal apartment overlooking Freshwater Beach, Sydney. Conceived as a multidisciplinary body of work, the project extends across painting, handmade rugs, sculptural ceramics, and collectible objects, exploring how art, architecture, and interiors can exist as one continuous language.
This Private Room presents three interconnected bodies of work.
Le Maree is a series of abstract paintings exploring the rhythm of the tides through layered gestures and mineral tones, reflecting the movement and quiet erosion of the coastline.
Luce Riflessa is a series of monochromatic paintings investigating the changing qualities of reflected light across water, where gesture, shadow, and atmosphere become the subject.
Acqua & Sassi is a limited edition collection of handcrafted ceramic objects for everyday living, comprising water jugs, cups, bowls, plates, serving dishes, and sculptural vases. Produced in small numbers, each piece is individually made and finished with luminous aqua glazes inspired by the meeting of water and stone, bringing together architecture, craftsmanship, and daily ritual through tactile forms designed to be lived with.
Together, these works explore the relationship between memory, materiality, and place, conceived not as decoration but as an extension of the architecture itself.
About the Artist
Gaia Starace is an Australian-Italian multidisciplinary artist, architect, and interior designer based in Sydney. With a background in architecture and fine art, her practice moves fluidly between painting, sculpture, ceramics, interiors, and site-specific installations. Drawing from the Australian landscape and her Italian heritage, her work explores memory, materiality, and place, creating collections where art, architecture, and design become one continuous language.

Original works are available alongside commissions for residential, commercial, hospitality, and workplace interiors.
