COPPERED BRACKEN SHINES. The Old Man of Coniston, Cumbria. by Frances Hatch Image: The rise on the left known locally as Bell was named St George's Hill by Ruskin but the name didn't stick. Oak tree saplings are being planted along the ridge (and eaten by the sheep) The little hillock on the right doesn't have a name I know of. It has a holly tree (a few actually) emerging out of the shelter of piled rocks on its peak.

COPPERED BRACKEN SHINES. The Old Man of Coniston, Cumbria. by Frances Hatch Image: This image is in response to placing myself within a window of time between first light and sunrise. So as to witness the first rays of sun as they move over the flanks of The Old Man of Coniston. Foraging around the mountain terrain and integrating site earths and mining debris with water media. The painting became a container of a cumulative experience: daily lingering, foraging and concocting 'potions' and careful attention to the topography. Weather, light and happenstance animated, revealed and concealed the contours and intensity of the colours. The rise on the left known locally as Bell. Oak tree saplings are being planted along the ridge (and eaten by the sheep) The little hillock on the right doesn't have a name I know of. It has a holly tree (a few actually) emerging out of the shelter of piled rocks on its peak. It was important to me that I have walked the ridge. I'm sure the bracken wasn't really that bright- but it felt like that.
