Infinite Spiral

Infinite Spiral is inspired by spiraling galaxies, the earth spinning on its axes as it circles the Sun, Circadian rhythms, and our constantly spiraling thoughts.

Infinite Spiral is a constructed sculpture. It is constructed from 16 gage (a little under 1/16 of an inch) stainless steel sheet metal. The parts of the design were cut out with a plasma torch ground smooth and round with an electric hand grinder. The parts were then tacked together into the three dimensional triangular tubed structure. The structure was welded along the joints and seams. The visible weld was then ground off leaving the penetrating weld (the part of the weld below the surface) to hold the sculpture together. The sculpture was then sanded to give it a more aesthetic appeal. I wanted it to have texture, I didn't want it to look like your refrigerator.
