Discover the enchanting allure of a unique photograph that captures the historical moment a rare comet blazed in the sky over Yaquina Head Lighthouse!
Comet C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS made a historic appearance in our skies early October as it approached the sun. It was initially a morning comet and could be seen faintly visible just before dawn. It then whipped around the sun in its estimated 80,000 years orbital period and gravity slung it back towards the OORT cloud. It grew bright and was clearly visible just after dusk for several weeks. This long tale is behind the long tail of the comet I captured one evening as it descended over the Yaquina Head Lighthouse.
This glass print reproduces the subtle and soft tones of the photograph. It is an incredibly detailed scene with Silal Hill rising to one side and the Pacific Ocean churning on the other.
