“I’m an artist and writer who creates cross-genre in poetry, theater, and visual art. These inspire and inform each other in my work. I’ve made huge novel-sized installations and produced haiku-like miniatures no bigger than a seed. I relish an art historical reference and I’m a sucker for a visual pun. I prefer to see the mistake-making hand present and often work in media we’ve abandoned since childhood, like tracing and coloring. I enjoy humble materials and have an affinity with the Arte Povera, found art, and land art movements.”

Merridawn Duckler is a poet, curator and text-based installation artist in Oregon represented by Blackfish Gallery, the longest running arts collective west of the Mississippi. Exhibitions include a wall-sized reproduction of Benjamin’s “Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction,” “Circulation” a pop-up forest library, “Roboyat” on robotics and Khayyam’s Rubaiyat in collaboration with Geordie Duckler and “Guarded”, installation of the break room of the unknown art guard, complete with uniform and unfinished puzzle. She’s had art-based text in performance at LACMA, LACE, the Phoenix Art Museum. Her play “In Spirit” on the Native-American artist Rick Bartow had a sold-out run at the Newport Performing Arts Center. Residencies include Centrum, Caldera, Yaddo, Horned Dorset, Berta Anolic Visual Arts Fellowship, Rowan Scholarship University of Texas, Spokane Playwrights Lab, others. Ekphrastic work and essays in At Length, Ekphrastic Review and forthcoming in the ekphrastic issue of Gasher Press. She’s the author of INTERSTATE (dancing girl press) IDIOM (Harbor Review) and MISSPENT YOUTH (rinky dink press) and a book of flash fiction forthcoming from Southern Most. She curated the first land art show ever in Oregon and was co-curator of a second land art show "Terra Incognito" in collaboration with the Verdancy Project, an artist’s residency in the Columbia Gorge.
