The Purge
Acrylic, charcoal powder on canvas
“I use the human body to convey and explore human emotions. The body has the capacity to hold memories that can manifest in emotional trauma and/or physical issues. I hope to capture the rawness and vulnerability of human experiences through these large-scale nude figures. Working from and through personal experiences, these bodies become a channel for storytelling and a means to communicate themes of trauma, degradation, and mental health.
The monochrome palettes serve to highlight the stark reality of the human condition by allowing for a greater focus on the intricate interplay between the figures, as well as light and shadow. This speaks to the simplicity and universality of human emotion. The intention is to evoke a visceral response from viewers, encouraging them to reflect on their own experiences and the ways in which emotions can shape our bodies.”
