“[‘Slow Going’ was] inspired by finding beauty in unlovable creatures, and the magic of life and death. I create art because for many years it was the only choice in my life I had control over. I could put whatever I wanted on the page. I still had to hide many pieces from my abuser, but in the end my escapism became a career that lifted me out of my situation and became a life raft. Art is a place I can focus my intense emotions and describe them to my peers, as I struggle with verbal communication at times.”
