“‘Self-Portrait (Quilt)’ displays myself underneath a patchwork quilt in my bedroom. The quilt combines many separate paintings of the eyes of my friends and family. As a quilt, it brings the comfort and warmth of home while evoking the history of community-building behind American quilt-making. As a functional object, the quilt literally keeps me warm while I sleep, comforted by the eyes of my community. To show the intimacy of using the quilt in everyday life, I documented and displayed myself under it in my bedroom.”
