"[In this self-portrait], I wanted to match with the yellow dandelions. I have had the unique lifelong problem of not quite fitting in, in more ways than one. I’m a politicized, policed body, whether that be in the regular world or the art world. I'm a non-white, larger-bodied, and non-cisgender person. I've never felt exactly welcome nor safe in your typical art space. The way I've experienced and understand the art world is that it is purposely made to only support a certain type of person or kind of people."

About the artist

Jules Tatham

Jules Tatham is a Black-biracial, trans non-binary, Columbia, South Carolina born, raised, and based designer, photographer, landscaper and artist. He obtained his Associates Degree in Graphic Design in 2013 from The Art Institute of Charleston, located in Charleston, South Carolina. He has freelanced for over a decade. His interest in image making began in high school, where he was taught how to use digital and analog cameras, and rudimentary digital photographic production software. Their mere humble hobby over the passing years has evolved into a committed practice.
