Sculptural quilts are the primary focus of textile artist Sharon Havelka's mixed-media work. She makes use of clothing and other items that family and friends have given her. Her creations are exquisitely constructed and intricately detailed, highlighting the neglected, the overlooked, and the strange or unexpected. She draws inspiration from her distinct background as a Delta Chinese descendant as well as from the knowledge and expertise she has gained as an ICU registered nurse. She received the Arts Accelerator Grant from ArtsMemphis and was an artist in residence at Crosstown Arts. Her artwork has been displayed in Quilt National and Fiber Arts International. Sharon Havelka was born, lives, and works in Memphis, TN.
