Hand-dyed rice, red plastic straws
“‘Arroz con Popote’ is a series conceived from the Mexican euphemism "arroz con popote" (to eat rice pudding with a straw), slang used to describe a man as homosexual, with or without any intention to offend: "He likes arroz con popote." The series explores themes of identity and anthropocene-induced anxieties, taking ownership of the phrase to address contemporary issues through installation, performance, and digital work.” — Vicente Ortiz Cortez
