Foot Steps
Acrylic on wood panel
"My art highlights inequality and injustice within American institutions and culture. 'Foot Steps' tells the story of a father hoping that his son, when facing adversity and racism out in the world, will remember the security and strength of his father helping him tie his shoes.
All of my public art projects involve the unsheltered community. I employ Skid Row inhabitants to assist in the creation of these public art pieces, providing a creative outlet and means of income for those most neglected. Nothing I've done in life has been for money, fame, or recognition. I've spent my whole life fighting for those who have been forgotten, ousted, and isolated. My hope is that my work reaches the traditional art community to shed light on injustice and racism in America. My experiences in the streets have sculpted my understanding of American idealism, and my hope is that those ideals shift with the recognition of artists like me."
