"The aim of my work is to make something beautiful out of the darkness of my own human experiences. This is what I tried to do as a child. Using knick-knacks and scrap material, I hand-bound books. With stuffed animals and exploits into the Western Pennsylvania woods, I used make-believe to cope with an unpredictable environment. Now, as an artist, I continue to use hand-stitching and imaginary play to work through the repercussions of familial loss.
[The installation] 'This is my body' is a reflection on the repercussions of my parents’ divorce. It is a lament over the dismembering of my family, the tearing apart of that body, the desecration of that sanctuary people call home. It is also a meditation on the collision between the earthly and the divine."
