My work explores the destruction and reconstruction of the grid, and the fight for self in late stage capitalism. The ultimate goal of all my work is to crack the lenses society handed people to view the world with β not to replace that lens with my own dogma but to inspire people to seek understandings of their own outside of the influence of high-control organizations such as the cult of christianity I was raised in . My work is deeply connected to my internal world, and shows viewers one alternative way to process sensory input, unlearn dogma, and find delight in questioning the world around them. It can be easy to be lost in the power these societal grids hold - but we are not defined by them. Drawing from a personal taxonomy of drawings, I create a 2D visual surface to project on top of my movement, then capture these moments in film. Through an iterative process of projecting and re-projecting my own movement, I hope to create dialogues about nonlinear time, neuro-complexity, and non-singular senses of self. By interrupting the flow of an intercrate black and white pattern with my body, I celebrate the power in each of us to create our own narratives. The multi-framed moments are combined to create a new experience out of constructs of linear time. My process is constantly iterating on new and old images, just as we all are a series of imperfect versions of ourselves improving each time but never fully finished. I see my work as furthering the lineage of feminist artists using their body as a medium. I have often danced in the shadows β walking home on a dark financial district street on the way home from another 14 hour day in a graduate program not designed for me to succeed in. As a masked Autistic, presenting my stimming as dance has helped me move more safely through the world. By presenting my movement for the public to see, I hope to reclaim my neuro-complexity and begin to remove the shackles of the neurotypical dominance that harms us all. In the infamous words of Jiddu Krishnamurti, βIt is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.β1 I do not know what is authentic underneath all the layers of internalized ableism, capitalism and heteronormativity, but I hope this piece can be a step to finding that. Who am I when getting my basic needs met are not dependent on playing the role capitalism assigned me? Who are we underneath the grids? 1 https://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/jiddu_krishnamurti_107856
