"I have been painting the L.A. that I see and love. It's not the wealthy palm trees and swimming pools kind of L.A. made famous by David Hockney; it’s Vernon, Skid Row, West Adams, and the Fashion District. Places I visit and work in. There is a history and an ambiance in these places that is rich and profound. I think it’s really important to tell the stories of all parts of L.A., lest we create a mythology for ourselves and others that is skewed and distorted."
