"These days, I constantly find myself making various vessels to hold candles. Everything from small votive holders to tall candelabra. This piece is one of a series of this exploration. I am passionate about making pieces that bring more light into our world… I celebrate the soft, responsive nature of porcelain clay in my work. The candelabra are formed by adding, then throwing and shaping soft coils of clay to the leather-hard sections below. The pieces are fired in a soda kiln where flames decorate anticipated edges and enhance brilliant color. Sometimes, I imagine these as a combination between my fascination as a child with Walt Disney cartoons, where dishes danced, and with my awe of my grandmother’s elegant holiday table settings."
