Mark Deshields began his career in glass in 2004 by attending the Scientific Glass Technology program at Salem Community College in Southern New Jersey. While there, he was introduced to the underground art form of pipe making. After school Mark moved to Raleigh, NC to work as a scientific glass blower and after some years doing so became a full time pipe maker, eventually moving to Asheville to take glass art more seriously as a career path. There he was introduced to the North Carolina Glass Center (then the Asheville Glass Center). In 2021 he began taking hot shop soft glass classes there, pivoting his career in glass once again.
