Beginning in my 30s, it grew from a mix of chance encounters, a background in art and graphic design, and a love of handmade papers and natural materials. Eventually, in 2013, I began to turn the idea of capturing the beauty of Autumn in Western North Carolina into a lamp design. Turning a simple concept into a well designed lamp is more complex than it might appear. It takes determination — and a willingness to handle the less glamorous parts of the process: sourcing components, selecting and drilling stone, cold-bending and rusting metal pipe, assemblage of said parts, marketing, websites, etc. When the curating, designing, and preparation finally come together, the reward is real.
The result is more than a simple light source — it’s a functional piece of art that brings color, texture, warmth, and a sense of life to a space. Since 2013, I’ve explored this path as a creative outlet, discovering a largely untapped niche in lighting. By developing original surface pattern designs and curating distinctive papers from around the world, I’m able to offer a wide range of unique lampshade options.
