Laura M. Cañas P. (Medellín, Colombia, 1992). Artist and Journalist. Based in Austin, TX, USA. She has a bachelor degree in Social Communication-Journalism, self-taught artist and has participated in artists groups. She has been awarded artist grants such as Blind Date Comic Grant from Ministry of Culture of Colombia and Toronto Comic Arts Festival (2019), Emerging Artist Grant from Culture Secretary of Medellín, Colombia (2020) and Creativity in Public Spaces Grant from Culture Secretary of Medellín, Colombia (2021). She has participated in group exhibitions in Colombia and Brazil. In her home city, she was member of artist groups such as Grupo de Retrato de los Viernes (Friday Portraiture Group), Laboratorio de historieta La Chimenea (Comic Lab La Chimenea) and Grupo de Grabadores de Domingo (Sunday Printmakers). Printmaking is her main medium. She experiments with different techniques and materials, developing her own method of production.She also writes and has experience creating journalist content for community newspapers and art magazines, such as Q’haydeNuev9 and Revista Blast (Colombia).
