Kendall Laurent is an emerging painter, mixed media artist, and writer currently working out of the Northeast Arts District in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA. After graduating from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities in 2019 with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Fine Art and a Minor in Psychology, she became a resident at the Casket Arts Building in 2020. In addition to being a part of the vibrant Northeast Minneapolis artist community, Kendall is the head of the Finishing Department at the local fine artwork print shop Arts District Imageworks, where she builds stretcher bars and frames, stretches canvas, and runs large-format scanning. Kendall has shown her work in juried group shows in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul area and throughout the midwest, including Thomson Reuters Concourse C Art Gallery at the MSP International Airport, and the DeVos Art Museum in Marquette Michigan. In addition to being heavily invested in the NE Minneapolis artist community, she also paints murals in her local community and participated in the 2023 Downtown Minneapolis Street Art Juried Festival in 2023. In her practice, Kendall is inspired by the human figure and the constant fluctuating state of a person’s sense of self. Having personal experience with identity dysphoria, her work explores how people grapple with transformations in their sense of self informed by both the physical and metaphysical world.
