About the artist

Amy Dyck

Based in the Fraser Valley of British Columbia, Amy J. Dyck creates a unique mix of representational and playful expressionist work that strives to convey something deeper in the human experience than can be observed by the eye. Using collage, oil paints, and (more recently) sculpture, and pulling from anatomical studies and visual experimentation, her work is strongly autobiographical in nature. It references her struggles with a body that does not do as it should and her journey toward acceptance, resistance, and resilience in the midst of suffering.

With a certificate in design studies from Kwantlen Polytechnic University, Dyck has spent a decade practicing human anatomy and learning the techniques of the Old Masters and is always pushing her practice in new directions. She has been interviewed for CBC Art Minute, had her work featured in a handful of art magazines, and won awards in international art exhibitions and contests. She teaches and demonstrates painting and drawing to students of all ages in Vancouver and the Fraser Valley. Her work is in collections around North America and internationally.
