Amanda Lucek (Unicoherent)

Unicoherent has been an artist from an early age. From illustrating a book of short stories they wrote at age 5 to designing and sewing all of their own clothes for a year at age 13, they have always expressed themselves in a quirky and visual way. When their high school guidance counselor tried to talk them out of pursuing a degree in Visual Arts because they had so much talent in more lucrative subjects, Unicoherent took time to do some deeply introspective thinking about what was truly important to them. They decided that the two things that mattered most to them in life were other people and art. So they headed east, to a place where they could also take classes from RISD: Brown University.

Despite having a stroke in their junior year of college, Unicoherent still managed to eventually graduate from Brown (a mere 6 years later than planned) with degrees in both visual art and mathematics. Unable to choose a single specialization for their visual arts degree, they dove deeply into both bookbinding and textiles, with intensive forays into installation art, emergent media, interactive typography, and more as well.

Unicoherent combines knowledge of traditional handicraft processes, cutting-edge digital tools, and innovative materials to create unexpected beauty through experimentation-and-refinement. Their work has been featured in art shows associated with science fiction and gaming conventions, in galleries, and local public libraries.
