I did a series of small studio works recently that were both challenging, fun, and somewhat outside of my normal comfort zone. I let go a bit of the hard representationalism that I do most of the time, and experimented more with textures and a more purely emotional response to the nominal subject and the paint itself. This image was cobbled together from some photos I had taken outside Deerfield, Mass, and a drawing of the rail yard in Holyoke, Mass, from the mid-to-late 1980's.
