The best-run plein air painting event in the country is arguably Plein Air Easton, which takes place on the Chesapeake Bay side of the Delmarva Peninsula every July. It better be well run, because otherwise one would have to be certifiably insane to find oneself on the Chesapeake Bay side of the Delmarva Peninsula in July. I once made the mistake of attending a Quaker Meeting in a 200-year-old Quaker Meeting House in 104 degree weather down there. It was just me and another guy, and it was an ordeal for either of us to not collapse of heat stroke while waiting for the other to speak. After about 20 minutes, the other guy stood up, said "Jesus, it's hot," and left.
What am I talking about here? Oh, that's right: this underpass. I painted it because it had really lovely interplay of light and shadow, and I could set up in the shade. Jesus, it was hot.
