- Quandrick Hagans
Quandrick Hagans was born and raised in the small rural town of Tarboro, North Carolina where he spent his childhood and adolescence. Hagans became fond of art at a very early age and began taking advantage of his abilities. His inspiration was a local African American artist by the name of Richard Wilson, who was a friend/co-worker of his mother and also an artist from the area. By adolescence, Hagans had improved tremendously and began creating at every moment he could.
Hagans went on to attend college at North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University where he graduated with a BA in Visual Arts & Media Design. Hagans taught art as well to kids ranging from ages 5-11 through the public school system and community organizations. He describes himself as an experimental artist who desires to explore all areas of visual arts and create from what he encounters. Quandrick is actively exhibiting his work in numerous of venues and currently promoting his brand Abstrakt Kulture, a brand that exemplifies creative excellence and inspires others around to use their creative craft to enrich the communities they are apart of.
“ When people observe my work I want them to create their own experience and interpretation while also understanding my point of view as well. Five people can look at the same painting and you can still get five different interpretations of what it means.” I feel that my purpose as an artist is to be living proof in the community of adversity and the achievements that can result from it, especially among the African American male population. “
