To be able to witness the manifestation of my thoughts and ideas come to life is a feeling of ecstasy that is hard to describe. As a young man Poetry was my first love. It has always been easy for me to catch my feelings and put them into words on paper. Performing at open mic events throughout various cities was and still is always an outlet for me.
Lamp art is one of my many favorite forms of art. Many times I use raw, simple, and easily accessible materials. I enjoy making animated characters out of basic construction wood, or often times cast iron or galvanized plumbing pipe. It is an exciting journey creating characters from every day materials and turning them into an enjoyable lamp. Lamps and home lighting are a basic necessity that everyone needs so why not bring them to full life and light!
I am a simple man who enjoys building treasured gifts for others. In the beginning poetry and spoken word were my first love. Writing in aimless diaries has always been a way of life for me especially as a published author. However, in my teens I found that working with my hands would become a portal to an endless journey leading me to a safe haven of peace. It was around the age of 15 that I was introduced to lamp making. I made my first lamp in a summer program for young men. This was way before internet tutorials, hashtags and social media. That lamp was made from wood and is still around to this current day shining bright almost 20 years later. It wouldn't be until my early 30s that I would begin to start lamp making and woodworking as a consistent weekend hobby. Ive found that as long as I stay busy and constructive in any form of art that life seems to be more enjoyable. The gift of working with my hands is an act of self expression that I am forever grateful for.
