Stone monument with metal plaque. Inscription: "In memory of John P. and John Lee Jones and Sons Manufacturers of Iron 1856." The informational signs are faded beyond readability. The original inscriptions are as follows:
During the year 1869, John P. Jones and sons moved from Cedar City to Johnson’s springs. They
bought the land and springs on the east bench from Labon D. Morrill and Johnson. Their first
homes were built of logs. They did farming and dairying for a living. After moving to the
springs, John P. Jones, who was an iron worker and had been to Iron County to help develop that
industry, built a blast furnace coke oven and melted iron and molded fire grates, dog iron,
cogwheels for machinery and for a molasses mill for the Dixie people. He also made 500-pound
hammer to drive the piles for the dam being constructed by the St. George and Washington
Irrigation Co. The sons of John P. Jones who helped him and made their homes at Johnson’s
springs were John Lee Jones, Sylvester F. Johns and Hyrum Jones.
