Ellen (Nellie) Pucell Unthank

Ellen (Nellie) Pucell Unthank (1846-1915) as a young girl. Unthank was with the Martin Handcart Company. Snows overtook the company. Her parents perished. Unthank's feet were severely frozen and required amputation just below the knee by butcher knife and carpenter's saw. She walked on the stubs for the rest of her life. Monument erected by the National Society of the Sons of Utah Pioneers.
