This painting is inspired by the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge in Texas and features a whooping crane. The refuge is a winter gathering place for the cranes. The movement of other cranes is shown in white outline as are other species in the water. On the sides of the canvas are vintage dictionary pages with words that connect to the painting. This piece is part of a series I have created on endangered species and their ecosystems.
I am a teaching artist and a former volunteer educator from my local zoo and I enjoy featuring inspiring educational context in my work.
