This piece is inspired by the Doctrine of Signatures, a pseudoscientific theory wherein plants have a "signature" that marks their ability to be used in medicine. Some mirror the ailment which they can be used to heal, and others the body part itself.
In 'Signatures I (Femina)', plants replace the location of various body parts — for example, eyebright and oxeye daisy for the eyes, palma christi for the hand, and watermint for the nose.
Thank you to Dr. Xinyi Wen for her aid with my research into the Doctrine of Signatures.
