John is first and foremost, a Potter. He loves to create beautiful forms. Each artwork starts as a wheel-thrown form. After the clay has hardened to a leather-hard state, he adds slab-built pieces, hand alter, carve, pierce. He relies on his previous years as a graphic designer to create the fluid movement and flow to each artwork. 'It's my intention to put the joy and passion I have for the clay into the pieces I create. Just like me, the pots are whimsical and often a bit off-center'. To finish his pieces, he uses the Raku firing process with a copper matte glaze as a dominant base.
