Here I speak to both the pregnant and postpartum body. Her Bobblehead-like, upside-down body floats as if a Nutcracker string toy. She jumps through hoops in order to nurture the being that grows in and out of her. I had so many “nonstress tests” a.k.a. fetal monitoring towards the end of my first pregnancy, and a tumultuous time with breastfeeding thereafter. I liken the fetal monitor’s belts to stripes on a bowling pin, and its wiring to the veins of her milk ducts.
