From “A Journey through Moselle” series that brings together a series of 30 x 30 cm watercolour and mixed-media works on paper mostly created during the residency. Walking and cycling through the surrounding villages and landscapes, Gastaldi approached the region with the curiosity of a newcomer, allowing direct observation to become a way of building a relationship with the place.
Created primarily during the early morning hours between 6 and 11 am, during an exceptional summer heatwave, these works capture subtle shifts in atmosphere, light, and rhythm. The quietness of the early hours, the intensity of the summer light, and the altered pace of life became integral to the encounter - shaping not only what was observed, but how the place was experienced.
