This piece uses paper from "failed" paintings. Failing is part of the process. Failing means I tried. It means I put the work in, and I am better for it.
It also uses a frame from over a decade ago, from a time when I worked in a different medium. It once held a painting I was proud of, but which I now recognize as ineffective. I spent a pretty penny on that frame at a time when I could barely afford it. Now seems the perfect time to give it a new life.
A small, personal quirk about my process: I hate the feeling of glue on my fingers. So, instead of adhering paper with glue, I stitched the pieces together with thread. It's a tactile choice that feels like a deliberate act of mending.
These fragments—the paper from "failed" attempts and the frame from a different era—are juxtaposed with the generated image that took five minutes to create. One represents years of experience and effort; the other represents a moment of a machine's calculation. Together, they tell a new story.
