This ink painting is what I tried to paint what qi means in Chinese painting, and what does “jingjie” means in Chinese painting or Chinese literature. (renjian cihua by wanguowei) I started with circles in the bottom of the painting and imaging the growth of the painting and lotus plants from bottom up. In the painting process, I was very mindful about how my body moved when I was painting it. I try to be as fluid as possible with my gesture and truly imaging the painting is painting itself. Overall it was a very catharsis experience and I believe that I got a sense of what Qi means in the Chinese painting.
