"The Shrine for the Bronze Lady" This structure and its figure are my homage to every temple ever built, my study of the most universal elements of sacred architecture - the human image in a "house," a shrine, or temple. The outer columns create a roofed temple and protect the bright inner sanctum, the smaller shrine that houses the divinity. The steps elevate the idol and imply a processional approach, rising upward and inward, away from the ordinary world to approach the divine presence. The columns compress the inner space; they frame and energize the sculpture. When we enter the holy of holies, we confront the god-like human image - we confront ourselves.
