Shadows, depth, and light are essential to Vania's artworks, driving her composition and inspiring the final piece. Her landscapes transform with the changing light of day, dawn to dusk, illuminated by light and shadowed by darkness.

Vania paints what has been forgotten, working with absences and silences, drawing from the surrounding light and shadows. Her process involves creating and then destroying the painted landscape, leaving traces of what was there by rubbing back into the work. She often uses a reduced colour palette and tonalism, with some works dancing in energy and others reflecting a withdrawn and quiet mood.
