Social Distancing

My work investigates the iconography of 17th century Dutch art during the plague, combined with symbolism from the present, to respond to the Covid pandemic.

This piece reflects the increased mental and emotional stress as a result of lockdowns, loneliness, and fear. Viewers will recognise the ‘X’ as a floor marker indicating social distancing, while sensing the ominous invisible threat of the virus in the tension between cat and prey.

No animals were harmed in the making of this work. The artist has Department of Environment and Science collection authority to collect deceased wildlife.
