Lloyd Rees once said, “If you look for light, you will find it.” His words echo within us - not only to artists who may use light as their central theme but also as a more nuanced meaning speaking to our human condition. It is a mantra that may be used to lead us out of the dark. This series, Remains Of The Day, presents large format photographs of a study of the last light of the day. Long exposures on large sensors. These long exposures promote reciprocity failure or the Schwarzschild effect causing aberrations to light and color. The aim is to bemuse the photographic sensors, so when the digital file is processed the results are unique, random and asymmetrical, one of a kind. And hopefully beautiful… Nicholas Samartis
