Anxious vessels

I have been working with clay for the last 10 years hand building sculptural forms usually with grogged clay. I am drawn to texture and mark making but also inspired by artists such as Shaun Tan and his imagined creatures. My recent work has tried to incorporate both these elements and created Listening pods - a hybrid of flora and fauna. Anxious vessels develops this theme and tries to capture the awkwardness and difficult to handle feelings that anxiety creates. Like vessels we all have an interior and exterior life. Inside there can be a core of calmness where those spiky feelings are smoothed away.
