David Freed is an American painter, printmaker, and educator from Richmond Virginia. Freed is credited with establishing the Printmaking Department of the Richmond Professional Institute (later the VCU School of the Arts) in 1966 was a former professor of Virginia Commonwealth University where he taught until his retirement in 2005. Freed’s landscapes are created using a combined layering materials, direct mark making, and various combinations of different printing processes. This work includes a series of six 15"x 19" woodcut prints of the different seasons around the James River over the period of a year. (Titled from top-left to bottom-right: "Winter Landscape", "Rain on the River", "Spring Touch", "June Afternoon", "Summer Landscape", and "Fall River")
