The Horse Guards on Parade
- Oil on Canvas
- 24 x 36 in
- Anthony Robert Klitz
Klitz was a prolific painter, specializing in London cityscapes, and formal military scenes. He was admired by critics for his “…masterly reproduction of London’s watery light” using his subtle color pallet and his delicate application of oil paints. This painting depicts a military parade in front of the Horse Guards Building in London, England. The building was designed by William Kent in 1751 after the demolition of the original at Westminster palace. The building is the formal entrance to St James's Palace and as of 1906 it became the headquarters of two major Army commands: the London District and the Household Cavalry. The Horse Guards building is also the location of the Official Household Cavalry Museum.
