Frank Hobbs creates his work using a combination of quick studies drawn or painted on location and photographs which he later translates into larger scale paintings in his studio. The sites of these ‘contemporary landscapes’ are chosen serendipitously by the artist and are often taken from scenes in his everyday life. Hobbs stresses in his work that the act of painting is not simply a means to an end, but an open process of the mind. This diptych is a view of Rockfish Valley as seen from Beagle Gap along the Blue Ridge Parkway.
