- Frank Hobbs
Frank Hobbs creates his work using a combination of quick studies drawn or painted on location and photographs which he later translates into larger scale paintings in his studio. The sites of these ‘contemporary landscapes’ are chosen serendipitously by the artist and are often taken from scenes in his everyday life. Hobbs stresses in his work that the act of painting is not simply a means to an end, but an open process of the mind. This landscape was painted in Perugia, one of the hill towns in Umbria, Italy, where Hobbs would take his painting students each spring. The artist informally named this piece "Don Bosco Park" after St. Padre Don Bosco, a 19th century Roman Catholic Priest known for his charity in the area.
