Lilypads – Sunset Reflection
The stillness of the water, the gentle glow of the sunset, and the presence of lilypads all work in harmony, reflecting the interconnectedness of life. It’s a reminder that nature operates in a delicate balance, with each element contributing to the whole, much like the relationships and moments that make up our lives.
As the day turns to night, the illumination from the sunset can symbolize hope and resilience—the idea that even as one chapter closes, there is light to guide us forward. It mirrors the cycles of life, where endings lead to new beginnings.
The scene encourages viewers to pause and take in the quiet beauty of the natural world, which often goes unnoticed. It serves as a gentle reminder of the wonder that exists in the everyday, urging us to slow down and find joy in the small, serene moments of life.
To create this luminous scene in watercolor I layered the vibrant oranges and pinks of a setting sun reflecting on the water using a wet-on-wet technique. For natures palette of the lilypads, I then used a wet-on-dry technique to contrast the illuminated water. I feel this technique variance successfully captured the essence of a tranquil and reflective moment.
