Artist: Henry Heerup (Danish, 1905-1993)
Henry Heerup (1907–1993) was a Danish artist born in Copenhagen and educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Art. Drawing on the ideals of free expression, he became involved with several influential art groups, including Linien, Høst, and later, the CoBrA movement. While he exhibited with CoBrA in Amsterdam and Liège in 1949 and 1951, Heerup never signed the CoBrA manifesto. Despite this, Heerup’s work exemplified the CoBrA ideals of breaking down the boundaries that separate art from everyday life until his death in 1993.
