  • Artist: Burton Wasserman (1929-2017)

Burton Wasserman (1929-2017) was an American artist from Brooklyn, New York. After studying painting alongside artists Ad Reinhart and Burgoyne Diller at Brooklyn College, Wasserman developed an interest in expressive abstract art. Wasserman created various paintings, prints, and sculptures throughout the 1960s with a connecting motif of basic colors and geometric shapes. According to the artist, his work represents “the accumulation of a half century of inquiry, impulses, feelings, and observation coming out of layers of experiences gathered over time”. His work is in the collections of renowned institutions such as the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, and more.
The Villanova University Art Gallery honored the work of Burton Wasserman in a survey of the artist's work from 1955-1994 in the fall of 1994.
